School Food Show

Come see us at the Food Show this Thursday, 3/20, between 6-9 pm!

We’ll have samples of a smoothie made with Michigan-grown frozen blueberries, a presentation about the data we’ve gathered and our progress with Farm to School this year, as well as information about the farmers we’ve worked with this year.  You can even meet a few of the farmers, speak with the Food Service Director, and fill out a feedback survey about your observations about school food and the farm to school program.

We hope to see you there!

AGC & CPS “Eat What You Grow” School Garden Food Safety Program to Scale Nationally

We learned about the many success of Chicago Public Schools’ Farm to School and School Gardening projects at the Good Food Festival this weekend. It is so exciting to hear from others in our region making HUGE strides in the effort to connect students with where their food comes from, helping them forming life-long healthy relationships with food and agriculture. Way to go CPS! We hope to look like you someday!

Volunteer Opportunity

This month we will be sampling PEARS from Friske Orchards in a fresh pear salad recipe!  Dexter Food and Nutrition will be getting new salad bars into Wylie and Creekside sometime this April, so we are working to introduce a few new items that could go on the salad bars from local farmers.

We’ll try out a Crunchy Pear Salad with pears, celery, pineapple, and sunflower seeds.
