October is National Farm to School Month

Here is how Dexter students are celebrating locally.

Cafeteria News:

To celebrate National Farm to School Month, DCS cafeterias will feature the following local MI products:

  • Week of 10/1-10/5 cherry tomatoes
  • Week of 10/8 -10/12- rainbow carrots
  • Week of 10/14-10/19 winter squash
  • Week of 10/22-10/26 apples from Lesser Farms and The Frosty Apple

This is just a sample of the local Michigan products that will be served. Students should look for the mitten logo in the cafeteria to purchase other Michigan sourced products.

Garden Club News:

Creekside after school Garden Club has also been busy in the garden and kitchen.  Students have made yummy, healthy dishes of ratatouille, spaghetti squash, sautéed zucchini, and butternut squash soup.  Sounds delicious!

Creekside Flex Class News:

Sixth grade flex class began this week and 5th grade will begin on Monday- yay!  Sixth graders have been working in the gardens this week weeding, harvesting raspberries and learning the ins and outs of the kitchen classroom.
