Welcome Back Students and Dexter Families!

We have had a busy summer in the gardens and can’t believe fall is just around the corner.  First of all, I would like to welcome Francie Wesorick as the newest addition to the Farm to School staff.  Francie bring many years of practical and academic experience to the program in addition to her contagious smile and commitment to Dexter students and our gardens.  Francie will be replacing Laurel Livingston as the Kitchen Classroom Flex teacher and will also be overseeing the Creekside Kitchen Garden and after school garden club.

We have had a lot of successes in our gardens this summer- sunflowers are on time and blooming for students and teachers, 3 sisters garden at Creekside is flourishing in its new home and we have a wonderful variety of vegetables and herbs to share with Creekside students in the Kitchen Classroom Flex classes, after school garden club and in our DCS cafeterias.  This summer also brought some challenges like squash bugs that destroyed our winter squash and zucchini crop, a resident mole in the SMG garden and pepper loving critters in the Creekside Kitchen Garden.

Overall it has been an amazing summer and we are looking forward to reconnecting with current DCS families and meeting new ones!  Please stop by our open house table at Creekside, Wylie, Bates and Cornerstone to learn more about our program and sign up to become a volunteer.
